Every Speedy Sheds porch is four feet deep as standard, and that four feet does real work. It fits a bench, a pair of boots, a dog bowl and a place to stand out of the rain while you dig for your keys. If you want more room than that, we build front-porch and side-porch models six feet deep, and we've gone to eight feet when a customer wanted a porch they could actually furnish. Deeper porches are quoted per build, so tell your salesperson what you picture and we'll price it.
Porches come on our porch models: the Homesteader family on a barn roof and the Pioneer family on an A-Frame. Utility sheds and Cottages don't carry a porch.

The smallest porch building we make is an 8x12 Pioneer. If you want a porch on a barn roof, the Homesteader starts at 10x16 and the center, side and deluxe barn models start at 12 feet wide.

A Porch Changes How You Actually Use The Building
The Difference Between A Box And A Place You Want To Be
A plain storage shed is a box you open, grab something from and close. A porch turns that same building into somewhere you linger. Say you order a 12x20 Homesteader with the standard four-foot front porch. The porch takes four feet off the twenty, so you're storing in a 12x16 space and sitting on a 12x4 covered porch. Want the porch six feet deep instead? Order the 12x24 and you keep the same 12x16 inside. Within a month there are two rocking chairs out front and a string of café lights tacked under the overhang. The covered space does the heavy lifting. It gives you a dry spot to sit out a Carolina afternoon shower, kick the mud off your boots before you walk in or set a cup of coffee down while the dog runs the yard.
That shift matters for where you put the building, too. A storage shed gets shoved to the back fence. A shed with a porch usually earns a spot you can see from the kitchen window, because now it's part of the backyard instead of hidden from it. If you're weighing the look as much as the function, it's worth walking the project gallery to see how a front overhang reads from the house before you settle on a footprint.
Covered Space Without Building An Addition
Most homeowners who want a covered sitting area look first at adding a deck or a screened porch onto the house, and then they get the permit requirements, the contractor lead times and the quote. A porch shed gives you a finished, roofed outdoor room without touching your home's structure. It arrives built. There's no foundation pour, no framing crew in the yard for a week and no tearing into a wall. For a lot of properties, especially rentals or homes with strict additions rules, it's the only straightforward way to get covered outdoor space at all.
It also keeps your storage and your hangout in one place. The porch is the social half; the enclosed half behind it still holds everything a regular utility shed would. You're not choosing between a she shed and a tool shed, you're getting the front of one and the back of the other in a single delivery.
Front, Side, Corner Or Wrap-Around
Front Porch
The porch runs the full width of the front end wall, four feet deep. This is the Homesteader on a barn roof and the Pioneer on an A-Frame. It's the classic look, and it's the one most people picture when they say "shed with a porch." The look pairs naturally with our cottage-style sheds and reads like a little house from the curb.
Center Porch
The porch sits in the middle of the long side wall, four feet deep and twelve feet long, with the building wrapping around it on both sides. Center Porch Homesteader (barn) and Center Porch Pioneer (A-Frame). It gives you a covered spot that feels tucked in rather than tacked on.
Side Porch
The porch takes one corner of either side wall, four feet deep and twelve feet long. Side Porch Homesteader and Side Porch Pioneer. Pick which corner you want it on when you order, based on how the building will sit on your lot and where the sun hits in the afternoon. Side porches also keep the door on the end wall free for moving a mower or a golf cart in and out without dodging furniture.
Deluxe Wrap-Around
The porch covers the full end wall and then runs twelve feet down one side. Deluxe Homesteader and Deluxe Pioneer. It's the most porch we build, and on the Deluxe Homesteader you also get a 12-foot loft over the porch on top of the loft in the back. Popular for she sheds and home offices that want a quiet, partly-tucked entry, and for anyone who wants the building to be the backyard centerpiece.
Railings, Posts And The Details
Order your porch open or with railing and posts. Composite decking is standard either way. Posts come square and trimmed. These are the choices you'll make in the design center when you build the order.
We do build screened porches. If you want your porch closed in with screen, tell your salesperson and we'll quote it, it's not a checkbox, it's a custom build, and we do a lot of those. Same goes for ceiling fan boxes, swing hangers and anything else you want hung off it. Ask, and we'll tell you what we can do.
How The Porch Is Built To Last
One Roof, Not A Lean-To
The porch roof is framed as part of the building, not bolted on as a separate awning. The rafters that cover the porch tie into the same ridge and wall system as the enclosed section, so water sheds off in one clean plane and there's no seam between the porch and the shed where leaks start. That's the difference between a porch that's still tight in ten years and a tacked-on overhang that sags and pulls away from the wall. The Porch Floor Is Composite, Not Wood
Your porch deck is composite. It doesn't splinter, it doesn't need sealing every other spring, and it won't go gray and fuzzy on you after three Carolina summers. That's standard on every porch we build, not an upgrade you have to ask for.
The structure under it is pressure-treated: 4x6 treated runners and 2x6 treated joists at 16 inches on center. The part you walk on is composite. The part in the weather underneath is treated. That's the right way around.
Built For Carolina Weather
Around Laurinburg and across the Sandhills, a porch sees the worst of both seasons: beating July sun and the wind-driven rain that comes with summer storms and the occasional tropical system pushing inland. The overhang depth is part of what keeps the enclosed wall and door shaded and dry, which extends the life of the siding behind it. A deeper porch isn't just more sitting room; it's more protection for the part of the building you're trying to keep weather off. The whole structure ships the same way every Speedy build does. Doors, Lofts & Custom Options
Door Options
Fiberglass entry doors, single or double. Our fiberglass doors are insulated, and they come pre-hung with the frame, threshold and weather stripping already on them, plus a door pan underneath to keep water out. Barn-roof buildings get a 72-inch door, A-Frames get an 80-inch door, that's set by the wall height, not by preference. Slab-style fiberglass is also available if you'd rather have a surface-mounted door with a T-handle and a diamond plate threshold.
Wood doors, single or double, built in our own shop. Double wood doors open 70.5 inches wide, at 69 inches high on a barn roof and 86 inches high on an A-Frame.
Roll-up garage doors. Metal roll-up in 6-foot, 8-foot and 9-foot widths. Standard on the Workshop and Lofted Workshop, available on other Premium models.
Rampage doors. A door and a ramp in one. The whole door folds down to the ground and becomes the ramp, so you drive a mower or a UTV straight in without a separate ramp taking up yard space. Available 6x6 on barn-roof buildings and 6x7 on A-Frames, which have taller walls. Your building needs to sit level and the ground where the ramp lands needs to be flat and solid, a concrete pad or well-packed gravel is ideal.
French doors are available on Premium. Full glass, and they change the feel of a she-shed or office build completely. Lead time can run longer than a standard door depending on stock.
Which way it swings: pre-hung doors hinge left or right and swing in or out. Standard is outswing on a building with no porch, so the rain runs off instead of in, and inswing under a porch, where the roof already covers you and the door clears the porch rail.
Lofts
Loft size follows building length, not preference. A 12-foot building gets one 4-foot loft. A 16-footer gets two 4-foot lofts. From 20 to 24 feet you get two 6-foot lofts, and from 28 feet up you get two 8-foot lofts. Mini Barns don't get a loft, the walls aren't tall enough for one to be useful.
On A-Frames, only the Cottage comes with lofts standard (two 4-foot). Every other A-Frame and the Modern Shed can have lofts added.
The Deluxe Homesteader is the outlier: it carries a 12-foot loft over the porch on top of a standard loft in the back.
Exterior Upgrades
Vinyl siding, Dutch Lap or Traditional Lap, on any Premium model. Two-tone paint, body one color, trim another. Wainscoting. Faux rock skirting, Premium only, and it's the single fastest way to make a shed look like it belongs beside the house. Shutters and decorative trim packages. Dormers and roof accents depend on the model, ask us. Horizontal or vertical siding, LP SmartSide runs either direction. Most people order vertical, horizontal reads more like a house.
Custom work. This list is where most people start, not where they finish. We build a lot of one-off requests, including things we've never built before. You dream it, we build it, bring us a picture and we'll tell you what it takes.
Sizing, Footprint & The Fine Print
The Porch Comes Out Of The Footprint
The porch isn't bolted onto the outside of the building. It's inside the same footprint, under the same roof, sitting on the same runners. So a four-foot front porch on a 12x20 leaves you 12x16 of enclosed storage.
Plan for it when you pick your size. Most people who order a porch go one size longer than they would have without one. That way the porch is a bonus instead of a trade.
Getting The Footprint Right On Your Lot
A porch shed needs a little more clear room than a plain box, because you want space to actually use the porch: a couple of feet of breathing room in front of the steps, and a sightline that faces somewhere pleasant. Measure the spot with the porch oriented the way you'll really sit in it, not just where the building fits. And remember the building still has to get there: our truck and trailer together can run over 75 feet long, so give us 15 feet 6 inches of overhead clearance the whole way in, a foot of clearance on each side going through any gate or between trees, and 6 feet clear around the final spot so the crew can work.
Permits And Setbacks
Permit rules are local. Square-footage thresholds, setbacks and what counts as an accessory structure change from one county to the next, and sometimes from one side of a road to the other. Because the porch adds to the overall footprint, it counts toward the square footage your county cares about. Your county planning or building department is the only place to get a real answer, so call them before you order and ask what they need at your address.
What we bring to that conversation is the engineering. Every Premium building has a stamped engineer print available on request, certifying the building to 150 mph wind speeds and laying out the blocking and anchoring schedule. That's usually the document a permit office wants to see. We have stamped prints for North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Georgia, and there's no charge for them.
Your dealer has been through this with a lot of customers nearby and is happy to talk it through with you. Just get the final word from the county.
What If I'm In An HOA?
Bring us what your board requires and we'll build to it. Vinyl siding, architectural shingles, custom paint colors, shorter wall heights and smaller or custom footprints are all available, which covers most of what covenants ask for. We can't approve your building for you, so get your board's sign-off in writing before you order.

A porch adds to the price, but it doesn't change how you can pay. Rent to own is available on every porch model we build, up to $25,000. On a bigger build you put the difference down at signing.
